The course focuses on balance and function in activities such as sitting, standing, reaching, grasping, creeping, and gait. We also review ideal posture and alignment, updated literature on spasticity management, and changes in thinking on pediatric neuromuscular disorders.
Meet Our Instructor
Dr. Mirav Newman, PT, DPT
Dr Mirav Newman, PT, DPT, earned her undergraduate degree in Physical Therapy from Cleveland State University in 1993 and her doctoral degree from Rocky Mountain University in 2012. Before moving to New York, she began her work in Pediatrics at the Cleveland Clinic in 1999. Dr. Newman has been specializing in pediatric practice for over 25 years. Dr. Newman opened Dynamic Solutions Pediatric Physical and Occupational Therapy in Brooklyn, New York, in 2002. Today, her practice has two thriving locations and leads the way for quality care in pediatric private practice in New York. Over the past several years, Mirav, after being trained by Judy Carmick, PT, began teaching Task-Specific Electric Stimulation (TASES) online and in-person globally. Judy published work on TASES starting in 1993. Mirav is now on her own, bringing this course to therapists worldwide to enhance the hands-on experience and improve your learning process. Dr. Newman is passionate about disseminating information and ensuring all children and therapists can access the best treatment interventions, including TASES.

Day 1 Highlights (Lower Quarter Focus):
Core concepts of ES and its effects on neuromotor/neuromuscular disorders
Overview of lower quarter musculature and functional anatomy
Hands-on training with ES/NMES units: settings, muscle selection, and stimulation during tasks
Evidence-based discussions:
Symptomatic management of CP
Foot orthosis evaluation and gait/arm swing impact
Posture, alignment, and functional assessments (PT & OT perspective)
Motor learning basics
Lab practice on muscles: gastrocnemius, soleus, gluteus maximus
Day 2 Highlights (Upper Quarter Focus):
Expanded TASES evaluation and treatment applications
Hands-on stimulation of muscles: latissimus dorsi, biceps, supinator, wrist extensors, finger flexors, thumb activation
Lab practice with:
Median and ulnar nerves
Hand switch for task-specific activation (timing emphasis)
Training for gait applications using TASES
Introduction to pelvic musculature applications: hamstrings and adductors for sitting/standing balance
